If you are a monitored client

  • Update your keyholder list reguarly.
  • Always let us know when you are going away - even if its just for a night.
  • Create a password for your account - to ensure your identity.
  • Provide our patrol staff with keys to your premises.
  • Provide sufficient directions to your premises - if you live in a rural area please provide any relevant landmarks, marking or names or properties that may assist MAS patrol staff or emergency services to find your premises if needed.

Going on holidays

  • Have a trusted neighbour or friend collect your mail reguarly.
  • Leave your contact details with a trusted neighbour in case of emergency.
  • Lock all doors and windows securely.
  • Have a neighbour or friend bring your wheelie bin in after being emptied.
  • Leave an internal light on to give the impression someone is home.

General Home Security Tips

  • Trim trees and shrubs away from windows.
  • Install motion activated lighting at appropriate points of your premises.
  • Do not leave keys hidden outside your premises - it is a good idea to leave them with a trusted family member, neighbour or friend.
  • Never leave notes for people telling them you are out and when you will be back.
  • If you suspect an intruder is in your home do not risk injury, seek the help of a neighbour to advise the local authorities.

Home security with children

  • Teach your children how to call emergency services if needed.
  • Teach your children what not to say on the phone. ie. Do not tell the caller they are home alone, say their carer/s are busy and will call them back.
  • Teach your children not to open the door to strangers.
  • Have your emergency contacts speed dialled into your phone - this will ensure your child not being confused with lengthy numbers.
